"Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever." –Unknown
We think giving thanks to our mothers should happen every day. After all, our mothers are the ones who gave us life. But they may not always get the thanks they deserve, which is why there is Mother’s Day.
Officially designated in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson to take place on the second Sunday in May (May 14 this year), Mother’s Day is now celebrated not only in the U.S. but also around the world. It is a day to show our love and appreciation with a gift, a card, a nice meal out, for the most important woman in our lives.
Doesn’t she deserve more than a box of chocolates?
Don’t get us wrong -- we love chocolate. But when it comes to honoring the eternal bond between mother and child, we suggest giving the mother in your life (yours, or your children’s) a gift she will cherish and enjoy forever: the eternity band.
These delicate rings (also known as infinity rings) symbolize the unbreakable circle of love, and typically feature small gemstones--diamonds, sapphires and rubies are most popular-- that partially or completely encircle the band. The gemstones are often set in a line, and can combine different cuts (for example, round with baguette) and settings (channel, bevel, tension) that blend a vintage feel with a modern twist.
Stackables
We love eternity bands for their versatility and the fact that they are easily stackable, so you can mix and match styles and stones for every occasion. You can even go stoneless, with these eclectic designs:
DID YOU KNOW? Mother’s Day actually began as an anti-war movement, launched in 1870 by Julia Ward Howe, who wrote "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and sought to bring women together to prevent future wars. It was later championed in the early 20th century by West Virginian peace activist Anna Jarvis, who is recognized as the founder of Mother’s Day as we know it. Maybe that’s why, as a jeweler that uses only 100% conflict-free and fairly traded gemstones in every ring we make, Mother’s Day is one of our favorite holidays!
All of our stackable eternity bands are also made from eco-friendly recycled 14-kt gold or recycled platinum. Check out some more of our favorite stackables from our Rosados Box collection.
