How to Check Your Ring Size

Find your ring size at home with a ring sizer, printable chart, or an existing ring. Get the perfect fit with this easy sizing guide from Love & Promise.

Choosing The Right Size For Your Ring Style

While it’s recommended to choose your true fit when purchasing your ring, there are some instances where you may have to size up or down depending on the band thickness or style of the ring to achieve the most comfortable fit.

Wide Bands

If your desired ring is wider than 7mm, and the ring sizer you tried on is 6mm or under in width, order about 1/4 size larger. If your desired ring is wider than 9mm, order about 1/2 size larger than true size. This will allow enough space to bend the finger.

Thin Rings (Under 2mm)

A thin-style ring will "feel" bigger even though it measures accurately so for rings under 2mm, we recommend ordering your ring 1/4 smaller than true size. If you plan on stacking more than two rings together, we suggest ordering true size.

Stacking Rings

Order true ring size if each band is 2mm or thinner. Order 1/2 size larger for bands wider than 2mm and if you plan on stacking at least three rings together. The reason for ordering the larger sizes is because the wider the rings stack, the more you need space for flexibility.

Ring Size FAQs: Finding Your Perfect Fit

Every forever ring deserves a fit that feels just right. Explore helpful answers about measuring your ring size, choosing between sizes, resizing engagement rings and wedding bands, and creating a meaningful ring that's made for you✨

How can I measure my ring size accurately at home?

You can measure your ring size at home using a printable ring size guide, a ring sizer, or an existing ring that fits the intended finger comfortably.

For the most accurate result, measure your finger at room temperature, preferably later in the day, and check more than once. If you're using a printable guide, make sure it's printed at the correct scale.

What is the most accurate way to find my ring size?

Having your finger measured by a professional jeweler is generally the most reliable way to determine your ring size.

A jeweler can account for details that home measurements may miss, including knuckle size, band width, and how comfortably a ring moves over your finger.

Should a ring fit snugly or loosely?

A properly fitted ring should feel comfortably snug without pinching your finger. It should slide over your knuckle with gentle resistance and stay securely in place during everyday activities.

If your ring spins constantly, slips off easily, or feels uncomfortable, the size may need adjusting. Remember that fingers naturally change throughout the day.

Why does my ring size change throughout the day?

It's normal for your fingers to change slightly in size throughout the day. Temperature, physical activity, hydration, and other everyday factors can affect how snugly your ring fits.

Fingers may feel smaller in cold weather and slightly fuller in warm conditions. That's why measuring more than once can help you find a comfortable everyday fit.

If you're choosing an engagement ring or wedding band for daily wear, consider how the design and band width may affect comfort, too.

Should I size up or down if I'm between ring sizes?

If you're between ring sizes, the best choice depends on your finger shape, knuckle size, and the width of the ring.

A slightly larger size may feel more comfortable for some people, especially with wider bands, but sizing up isn't always the right answer. The ring should remain secure without feeling tight.

Do wider wedding bands fit differently from thin rings?

Yes! Wider wedding bands can feel snugger than narrow bands because more of the ring touches your finger.

Depending on the design and your finger shape, you may prefer a slightly different size for a wide band. Comfort-fit interiors can also affect how a ring feels, so it's best to consider the specific style rather than relying on one measurement for every ring.

Can engagement rings and wedding bands be resized?

Many engagement rings and wedding bands can be resized, but not every design is suitable for resizing.

The metal, setting, stone placement, and construction all matter. Rings with gemstones around the entire band, intricate details, or certain alternative metals may have limited resizing options.

It's best to confirm whether a specific ring can be resized before purchasing, especially if you're unsure of the size.

How can I secretly find someone's ring size for a surprise proposal?

If you're planning a surprise proposal, try borrowing a ring your partner already wears on the correct finger and having a jeweler measure it.

You can also ask someone close to them for help, but remember that ring sizes can differ between fingers and hands.

If you're uncertain, choose a design with resizing possibilities and confirm the available options before purchasing.

Are US ring sizes different from international ring sizes?

Yes. Ring sizing systems vary by country, so a US ring size may not match the number or letter used elsewhere.

The United States and Canada commonly use numerical sizes, while other countries may use alphabetical sizes, circumference measurements, or different numerical scales.

When shopping internationally, use a reliable conversion chart and confirm your measurements rather than assuming the sizes are interchangeable.

What should I do if I order the wrong ring size?

If your ring doesn't fit as expected, contact Love & Promise Jewelers before arranging any alterations.

Your options depend on the ring's design, materials, order details, and eligibility for resizing, returns, or exchanges.

Choosing a size listed on a product page is not considered customization by itself. However, special sizing outside the listed options, engraving, and other personalized changes are considered custom orders and are final sale.
