The word turquoise has an interesting history and dates all the way back to the 13th century! It draws from the French expression pierre tourques, which references the “Turkish stone” brought to Europe from Turkey. The stone is known for its distinct color, which ranges from a powdery blue to a greenish robin’s egg color.
Zircon
Zircon’s name derives from two different origins. Some say that it gets its name from the Persian word zargun, which means “gold-colored.” On the other hand, some trace it to the Arabic zarkun, meaning “vermillion” or “cinnabar.” This gem also comes in a wide range of colors, the most common being a brownish-red. The gems that are heat-treated appear as colorless, gold, or blue. Blue is the most popular color of the heat-treated variety of zircon that you will see around.
