Lighting is Everything
When it comes to taking a picture of your ring, make sure that you are in a well lit setting. If you’re indoors, the best option would be that au naturale light. Stand by a window, pose, and take that shot! It’s as easy as that. If you’re outdoors, make sure there are no shadows from the sun. One last thing to avoid is using flash because it will alter the appearance of your ring or create a flare effect. We wanna see your ring in all its brilliance!
It’s All About The Angles
Is there something specific that you love about your ring? Highlight that! Whether it’s the center stone, the setting, etc., angle your camera or phone to get the perfect picture. One thing we suggest against is zooming in because the image will become pixelated and who wants that?!  Â
Location, Location, Location
Sure your ring is the main focus, but having an eye-catching background doesn’t hurt either. Did the proposal happen on the beach during sunset or at The Happiest Place on Earth? Get that once in a lifetime shot! Another great idea is having your significant other in the picture. Some examples would be your fiance jumping in the air in the background while you hold up your hand or they could lovingly hold your hand. It’s their moment too!
Less Is More
We’ve all seen those pic collages posted all over social media for some special occasion like a birthday. While it may be a nice gesture, sometimes it's too much. For an engagement announcement, one pic is all you need! Posting multiple photos can be overwhelming. There is an exception though. If the sequence of pictures lead to the moment of the proposal, that is never too much!
#NoFilter...Literally
Engagement rings are best when shown in their beautiful, natural state. Applying a filter can take away from the essence of the ring and we believe in capturing the true moment! If you have to make a slight edit to your hand because it has a scratch, do so. Just don’t alter the ring’s appearance. No faux photos please!
Oh So Crucial
If there’s one thing that has to be absolutely perfect, it’s your nails. It’s understandable that the proposal can come out of nowhere and your nails may not be properly manicured. If that’s the case, here are some solutions! Frame your nails out of the shot or even pose by holding your significant other’s hand. No one will ever know! We recommend a neutral toned nail polish so the focus is on the ring. Loud colors can be distracting. Should we look at the ring or your nails? Yikes!
The Golden Rule
This is major! It is proper etiquette to tell your close family and friends about your engagement FIRST before you post on social media. Why not just announce it to everyone at once so I don’t have to waste time you may ask? Would you want your parents, or even your bff, to find out about your engagement via Facebook, Instagram, etc.? It’s not cool, the people closest to you must know first! As long as your tribe doesn’t share the news before you, you’re good as gold! This is your moment and you should be the one who shares this news with the world, not them.Â
