How Did You Meet Each Other?
We met on Bumble and talked for a few days before meeting up for drinks at our local Irish pub.
Was It "Love At First Sight"?
It was definitely puppy love at first sight - we were both smitten and wanted to see more of each other but I (Lexi) tried to play it cool! That didn't last very long.
How Would You Describe Each Other In 3 Words?
Lexi describing Mal: selfless, funny, interesting
Mal describing Lexi: captivating, intelligent, funny
What Do You Admire About Each Other?
Lexi: I admire Mal's outlook on life - she's easy-going and never second-guesses helping someone. She's so kind and helpful.
Mal: I admire Lexi's love for people and life. She loves and is loved by her friends and family so incredibly. She makes every day exciting because she's so excited for what the day will bring, even if it is just laundry and movies at home. She is everything bright - she commands a room, she draws people in and does both effortlessly.
How/When Did You Know That You Were "The One" For Each Other?
Lexi: During a friend's house party we snuck onto the roof of the house to watch the sunset together, and I knew that even though I had to move to Indianapolis in a month and we'd only been dating for 4 months, I absolutely couldn't let her go and that she'd be a permanent part of my life forever.
Mal: I think my moments came in waves. I knew when we both had to come out to our parents, I knew when I would drive to her apartment with butterflies in my stomach every other day because I couldn't stay away, I knew when I brought her home to meet my mom and brother, I knew when my mom and brother loved her, I knew when I felt the dread of her leaving, I knew when I did the test my dad is famous for telling my sibling/step-siblings - "If you had one day left, would you pick to spend it with the person you're dating or your best friend if you pick your partner over your best friend you've found the one".Â
I have a great best friend, but I'd have picked Lexi every day since the beginning, and still would. For the record, I told her on the roof from her story she was my end game - a chance I'm so thankful I took.
How Did The Proposal Happen?
Lexi: Mal proposed to me first! She made an excuse for us to go back to our hometown for the weekend because her "friend was having an art gallery showing." She told me she had to go set up for it and had made me a date to grab a beer with some of my friends I don't get to see very often. She dropped me off near the bar as she was going to go help her friend set up but instead, my best friend from childhood was waiting for me! I was super surprised, and even more so when Mal handed me a note and sped off; my first clue! I think I had already started crying a little at this point.Â
My best friend and I met up with my other friends for a drink, and then they handed me a second clue, which kicked off a scavenger hunt of our favorite places around town (including the house from the story above!) Along the way, I met with even more friends, who'd all traveled from far and wide to be there. Finally, my last clue took me to the movie theatre where we'd seen Casablanca together on our first Valentine's Day. I was definitely crying by this point! Mal met me at the corner and held my hand as we walked under the marquee and she told me everything she loved about me, and how excited she was for our future.Â
Then we turned around, and up on the marquee sign was the phrase I'll never forget - "Lexi, will you marry me?" Mal barely had time to get down on one knee before I was crying and saying yes, yes, yes. I didn't even give her a chance to put the ring on my finger, I snatched it right out of the box so I could pull her up and kiss her! Our families popped out from their hiding spot and then we traveled to the Irish pub where we'd first met, to be met with a surprise engagement party with all our families and friends. I'd been dreaming about my proposal and wedding since I was little, and it was, without a doubt, the absolute most perfect day of my life.Â
Mal: Lexi had to deal with this quarantine world we live in to propose to me, but she absolutely killed it. She kicked me out of our apartment for a few hours while she made a three-course Italian dinner! When I was allowed back in we got dressed up for an at-home date - and she brought me out to a set table with candles and drinks.Â
She made my favorite dishes from our go-to romantic Italian restaurant (shout out to Mama Carola's in Indianapolis!!) which I must say, were fabulous! She even wrote me a menu, it was super cute. We had an awesome dinner together and had drinks on our balcony when she got down on one knee and proposed. She pulled off an amazing quarantine proposal! Â Â Â Â

What About The Ring(s) Caught Your Eye? Is There Any Significance Behind Why You Picked The Ring(s) That You Did?
