Product Guide: Teal Sapphires

Welcome back Rosettes! Today we are going to talk about our lovely teal sapphires. Wait...there’s another type of sapphire out there?! Why yes there is! This radiant gem comes in a variety of shades and we’re going to cover that and more! Let’s now dive into the world of teal sapphires!

What is a teal sapphire?

So what exactly is a teal sapphire? This dazzling gem is a sibling stone to your classic blue sapphire! Like most siblings, they are not alike and that is the case with a teal sapphire. The main color balance for a teal sapphire is blue and green. How dreamy!
Prior to the discovery of teal sapphires, Montana sapphires were the main source. Fast forward to today’s times, teal sapphires can be found in Nigeria, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka. They are ethically sourced due to mining restrictions.

Durability

A sapphire ranks 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Compared to other colored stones, this gem is pretty durable and will stay in great condition if the proper care is taken. When choosing your perfect gem, you will want to keep some things in mind before you make your purchase.

What to Look For Prior to Purchasing

To start, you always want to make sure that in any lighting, your gem is teal. A teal sapphire will always have a deep bluish- green or greenish-blue hue to it. Although it is extremely rare, your stone could have a “color shifting” or “color changing” effect. When this occurs, your gem appears as a totally different color when exposed to the light! If you come across this kind of gem, they are valuable.
Symmetry is everything when it comes to picking the perfect teal sapphire! To achieve this, you will want to pick the stone that has been cut perfectly. You may want to stay away from any cut that is less than perfect. You won’t have to worry about that at our shop though! We will always give you the best quality!
When looking at your sapphire, you will want to make sure that it has a smooth surface, or polish. Why’s that? A stone that has any bumps or is not finely polished will make for a not-so pleasing gem and who would want something like that? Not you or I of course!
Additionally, the way that the light bounces off of your teal sapphire is important too! If there’s a lot of sparkle and shine, that is a good sign! Something that you will want to look out for is if your stone has large “windows”. What the heck does that mean?! A window (typically in the center of your stone) is when light does not reflect off of your gem. Instead, it is transmitted through the stone. If you come across a stone that has “windows”, it would be best to go ahead and pick out another one.
As you’ll come to find out later in this post, our shop offers a wide variety of teal sapphires in different shades. And when we say there’s a lot, we mean there’s a lot! You are bound to find the perfect shade for you.
